The Sacrament of Confirmation echoes the Descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, 50 days after Jesus’ Resurrection, when the Holy Spirit came upon the apostles and disciples as visible tongues of fire. This is when a Christian announces their commitment to following Christ in the Church. It is a seal on one’s Baptism and a true personal promise that gives us the strength and courage to witness to the Faith. The colour red is proudly displayed as a pledge to die for Christ, even by martyrdom. It symbolizes ‘dying to oneself’ and ‘putting on Christ’.

Take the few weeks before your confirmation to prepare yourself with confession and to contemplate what this all means.
